RE: biofuels and further off-topic

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Follow the money. Maybe there is more profit with fewer refineries. Maybe
they can't pay off new refineries with the existing supply. If I owned
Chevron, NIMBY's cry too much or environmentalists chain themselves to trees
doesn't compute as a reason to not make more money by building more
refineries.

I found that hard to believe when Chevron, for example, is reporting
quarterly profits of $8B (!).

My sarcastic underlying meaning is, maybe we've hit peak oil and the oil
companies don't think the flow is going to be there to pay off their
refineries.

Drew:

Being Alaskan you know the golden rule, the people with the gold write the
rules that say screw any land use rules you want to develop to prevent
neighboring noxious development.

If they could make a profit and the people need the gas that bad, the
refineries would get built whether the NIMBY's want them or not.

Try public opposition. Who wants to live next to a refinery or have one
expand? Who wants one that will require water or discharge treated water
into the nearby pristine waters of the lake, river, ocean, etc? We all want
cheap energy but don't want what could be involved. This not only applies to
refineries, but to just about all new power plants including alternative
energy (wind farms off Nantucket, solar arrays in New Mexico, etc.)
