Strawbale methods

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
The current strawbale method without using the plaster skins(which ASCE7-05 has made difficult) is to use a 4x post and beam with hardy frames(remove the sheet metal studs and notch the bales around the frame)

The testing that was done in california is written up in DESIGN OF STRAW BALE BUILDINGS by Bruce King the structural section was co-authored by David Mar. This is the nerdest book on the topic.

The California Straw Building Association www.strawbuilding.org will soon publish a DESIGN DETAIL book. Details were submitted by may architects, engineers and contractors. also there is a section on the structural aspects. details drawn and ready to redraw and use.

You can search the archive a few months ago as this topic was on the list server.
