Re: Concrete Specs for Composite HSS

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

Do a web search on Concrete Filled Tubes (CFT) and pay attention to fire proofing requirements (assuming you may have something like a two hour fire requirement).  For larger type CFTs you may need to provide small holes in the columns to vent steam during a fire event and tests have shown this may be a good application for fiber concrete.  You probably do not want a real soupy concrete mix and I would recommend a W/C ratio of 0.40 if you can get it.

Concrete Specs for Composite HSS

I am looking through AISC 13th edition for the minimum specifications of concrete used in filled composite columns. I’m wondering if there are any requirements on aggregate size or for non-shrink or self-consolidation properties.
Thanks in advance.
