Every single guide to web site development I've ever seen warns against browser-specific coding. Which tells me they had an amateur do it to save money. The web site practically telegraphs 'amateur hour' at login. The ASME has been doing that sort of thing for years, and it's contributed heavily to most of their resounding on-line flops.
