RE: Arena Guardrail Deflections

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

Post – HS 2.5x2.5x.25 @ 3’-10.5” o.c.  Hgt = 42”

Top rail HS 2x1x3/16

Total deflection post (7/16”) + midpoint top rail (1/8”)  = 9/16”

All this under a UDL of 206plf (3kN/m)  Under “normal” guard rail loads (1kN at top of post) the defl = 3/16”

My question is, “Even though strong enough, would this be “robust” enough?”  It’s a perception thing …

Thor,

What is the post spacing, thickness of tube and will the tube be placed vertically or horizontally? Is the deflection at the post location or at midspan of top rail?

I’m checking a guard rail in an assembly/egress location.  The section proposed gives a total deflection of post + top rail of about 14mm (9/16”) of the post hgt of 1070mm (42”).

For an assembly area this still seems a bit high.

Also my client is proposing a top rail 1”x2” tube …

What do you think?

TIA
