ASCE-7-05 Table 6-1

If I remember correctly, there was an e-mail exchange questioning about the value of category I between the Non-Hurricane and Hurricane prone regions.

 (ref. Table 6-1 page 77 of ASCE-7-05).

The outcome of the exchange (if there was) failed to reach me due to our network server scenario. I was disconnected from the Seaint circulation for almost 2 months. This morning we had a discussion with my engineers about this table 6-1.

Is anybody had/able to get a response of why category I importance factor (I) varies this way?

Category              Non Hurricane prone Region                 Hurricane Prone Regions w/ V>100mph

                                                  w/ V = 85 -100 mph and Alaska)

                          I                                 0.87                                                       0.77

Thanks,

Julius
