Re: Update: Dallas Cowboys roof Collapse

Bill,

There's nothing wrong with "average hard working citizens". They just don't understand the problem or its implications. They are not against doing something about global warming because they have analyzed the problem and don't consider it an important issue; they're against it because some lobbyist told a friend of their neighbor that it was a scam and they should be against it.

To put it in a structural engineering perspective, many people who have to pay for the construction think that engineers are "way too conservative" until their own roof falls in on their heads.

I had a client once; his name was Walt Healy. He was a motorcycle geek. A prime example of a hard working citizen, he owned a motorcycle shop on 10th street in Calgary for sixty (60) years! He had a nick in one ear. He asked me if I knew how he got that nick; I said I didn't; so he told me. He was sleeping in a hotel bed when the roof collapsed and one roof beam fell into his room, all the way to the floor, making a doughnut out of his bed and putting a nick in his ear. We were renovating his building and he told me to make sure that the structure was sound and he didn't care how much it cost. When Walt passed away the Calgary Herald did a cartoon of him with his motorcycle at the Gates of Heaven giving St. Peter a ride in a side car. I thought is was a nice tribute.

Regards,

H. Daryl Richardson

Chris,

You don't have to go to the movies. The "Global Warming" situation is doing that right now in real life!!!!
If you want to consider "average hard-working citizens" ==> "evil corporate types."
