RE: Geometry of haunch for moment connection

I have to ask, where in the heck did you get your graduate degree and what planet was the instructor from to refer to Omar Blodgett’s book on the Design of Welded Structures as “dated”.

Hmmm, I don’t know, I used Blodgett for a graduate steel coarse report on just this topic and got a C for the mere reason that the information was “dated”

So according to at least that* professor the answer is NO! …freakin Ph.D’s

Can we refer to the book by Blodget for this?

Subject: Geometry of haunch for moment connection

Dear all,

The question is regarding haunch for moment connection for welded steel connection.

Normally we provide angle for the haunch as 30 to 35 degree and length of haunch as 0.5 to 0.6 times depth of beam.

Can we increase the angle to 45 degree for the same length of haunch ( as mentioned above).

Kindly give your opinion.

Regards,

Bhavin
