RE: Guard Rails

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
So, are there no-top-rail glazed guard rails in the US? If there are, they
are non-conforming, no?

The intent of the continuous top rail is to ensure that there is something
to stop falls if (for any reason) a light disappears ...

It bugged me enough I looked it up - it is the IBC - 2407.1.2

I can't remember if this was IBC or CBC but there is something about how the
rail must span at least 3 panel sections so that if one breaks the other two
will act as temp support. I'm pretty sure it was the IBC.

Can anyone confirm for me, under any/all US codes, if a continuous top rail
is mandated on all glass "guard rail" systems? . if it's a judgement call
or if it's not even mentioned .

Thanks
