admin: Is there some way to suppress the huge amount of gobbledegook that now comes with the emails? All the routing stuff and duplicate information? It really does clutter the emails. Sincerely, Eric Cox

Jim=2C

This is a summary of what I found.

=20

In general if you test concrete cubes=2C as is the practice in Europe=2C an=
d use the cube test results to determine ACI 318 requirements for f'c=2C ac=
counting for the effect of specimen geometry is required. The lower height =
to width ratio of standard 6 x 6 in. cubes results in a higher test strengt=
h than would be indicated using 6 x 12 in. cylinders.

=20

Cylinder test strengths run between 5% and 25% less than a cube test specim=
en. The following web site shows a good representation of the trend. =20

DAS Jacobson: Let me clarify. The U.S. embassy in Port-au-Prince is actuall=
y=2C the building itself is in very very good shape. It has not been damage=
d. The embassy in Port-au-Prince is quite a new building and withstood the =
earthquake very well=2C and we have many of our mission personnel at the em=
bassy working. They have also been able to continue =96- Communication is a=
bit spotty=2C but they have had generation for power=2C water and so forth=
.

What we have heard is severely damaged is the MINUSTAH Headquarters=2C the =
UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti. For those of you who may have been there=
=2C MINUSTAH is located up a little bit on the side of the hills in Port-au=
-Prince either down a block or just next to the Hotel Montina=2C which is w=
here many of the MINUSTAH people stay. The hotel and the MINUSTAH headquart=
ers were both very badly damaged. Because of the time of day=2C even if fol=
ks had left work=2C they may have returned to the hotel where they stay and=
live. So unfortunately=2C there are a pretty significant number of UN pers=
onnel who are not accounted for and the damage was very severe there. So th=
at=92s of great concern to us.
