RE: Getting LEED

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

I watched a Bentley Webinar last week and they had a chart that showed several LEED Gold & Silver buildings well below the expected energy savings and in fact below the energy savings of standard construction.   Some of these projects were energy hogs.  It seems the that LEED Gold during design does not mean Energy efficiency it means you checked of all the right boxes and spent way to much money to do that and now you have an energy hog building. The new legal frontier  somebody has to pay for the owner wasting his money……sue the Architect, HVAC, Painter, Plumber and last but not least Structural Engineer, after all he has a available deep pocket.

The beauty of complying with a political standard compared to a scientific and rational specification.

Wow!  Maybe we will get another slide show for $500 per ticket, and people flying in from all over the world burning millions of gallons of fossile fuel in corporate jets talking about the evils of fossile fuel and what everyone else needs to do to conserve.

I believe the entire LEED system is under review by many people in that it has been much ado about much less than it first appeared. For example some have checked on buildings that received high LEED ratings a year or two ago (long before up and running) and found that the amount of energy saved was less than half of what was estimated/claimed. Now there is a movement to reholdl awards untiil a year after the building has gone into services and electric and fuel bills can be received and evaluated.
