Title: steel supported by wood

No, I’ve done it a lot.  You just can’t support brick on the steel if the steel is supported on wood.

Is there any prohibition against or problem with supporting a steel (W-shape, in this case) floor beam in a wood beam pocket on either a built-up wood col. or a wood header for residential light-framed construction?  Not sure I’ve seen this done.

thanks,
