Re: NEW BRIDGE

Steve,
disregard them comments. Even in discussions within communities saner than Youtube, there's a whole lot of people responding "dude, this is soooo FAKE! shopped!"
See some videos and discussion in Russian here: http://navalny.livejournal.com/465847.html.
Tacoma Narrows was suspended design, Volgograd river crossing is (seemingly) a pair of channel girders. They say there is some problem with a foundation of one pylon but it seems much more like flutter. I'd really appreciate more comments from bridge pros.
BTW, they used to show videos of Tacoma collapse at engineering lessons back then here. They don't do it anymore.
Daryl,
the owner is the state. They don't get any profit from the bridge, so helicopters coming at their expense would be as likely as a space shuttle. There will likely be an inspection and assessment and the bridge will be closed for a long time.
Regards,
Alex.

The Russian audio is interesting (like, "the bridge was designed right, but not for this kind of loading [apparently, the wind])", but, the written comments are really out of this world.  The spans are much shorter that those of the Galloping Gertie, but the oscillations are quite close...
