High strength bolting is when ASTM A325 or A490 bolts are used. ASTM A307 bolts are generally not considered high strength. See RCBS web site for use of A325 and A490 bolts. You can down load the bolting specification and users guide at no cost.

IBC 2009 Section 1704.3.3 (I believe it would apply to A325 and above).

Does anyone know which code section defines high strength bolting? Is A307 high strength and would it require special inspection?

Thanks
