RE: Plate Washer in SDC "D"

To AS1720 Australian Timber structures code, if washers smaller than cited in the code for capacities of bolts are used, then the capacity is reduced proportional to diameter or side length of washer. Which tends to be an issue because the washers cited in the code, are non-standard and thus not the washers which the builders get when they buy the bolts. And typically no reduction has been allowed for in the design. So here it has been highlighted as an issue for building surveyors and inspectors to look more closely at.

Admittedly not much help if you simply have a prescriptive requirement to provide the washer. But if can check the forces it may help.
