Most people assume that a building (not a bridge) has to have some 
architectural or event significance to be considered historical, however, 
the folks at Preservation Design Works (PVN) recently won an APT award 
concerning their work showing that the Plymouth Building located in 
Minneapolis had historical significance from an engineering standpoint only 
 and as such was able to have the building placed on the National Register 
of Historic Places, which in turn allowed their client to obtain the 
related special historical grants and tax advantages.

Unless a president gets killed in one, I doubt a parking garage is going to 
 make the Register of Historic Places.

Well if I recall correctly, the euthanized parking garage in Mathew's 
article was no historical treasure
