Bear in mind that we are not in a seismic zone here, and seismic detailing 
has no part in our designs.

Also, please consider that the single-plate shear connection design depends 
 in part on flexibility of the connection to rotate.

The firms I have worked for over the last 27years here in Southern California 
 have always used 3/8" min
