Per ASCE 7-05 and ASCE 7-10, section 13.1.3, it is user selected and either
 1.0 or 1.5. It is 1.5 when
Component is required to function life safety after a seismic event
Component conveys highly toxic or explosive substance
Component is located in a risk category IV (essential facility)

All other conditions should get Ip equal to 1.0

Good luck,

Mansoor Khan

I'm looking for the "Ip" factor for ducting seismic load calcs. We don't
have that factor here unless it's an importance factor but it is in ASCE-7
to which the SMANCNA manual pledges loyalty.

I don't have a copy of ASCE-7 so would a kind soul, pretty please, be able
to send me the appropriate clauses etc for ducting calcs?
